An old-age grant is different from a monthly old-age pension. It may apply to an insured worker who reaches the required age but does not meet the full contribution period needed for a regular monthly pension, while still satisfying the grant conditions.

How is a grant different from a pension?

A pension is a recurring monthly benefit. An old-age grant is generally a one-time benefit determined under the applicable EOBI rules.

Official figures show Rs798.65 million in old-age grant payments during July–March FY2026, compared with much larger amounts paid through monthly old-age and survivor pensions.
