EOBI Registered Employees Reach 11.99 Million in 2026
The number of employees registered with EOBI reached 11.99 million by February 28, 2026, according to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26. The official figures provide one of the clearest snapshots of how widely Pakistan’s private-sector old-age benefits system currently reaches.
How many employers are registered with EOBI?
The Economic Survey lists 159,526 registered employers as of February 28, 2026. Of these, 105,748 were active employers.
The difference between total registered and active employers is important because EOBI’s contribution base depends heavily on active establishments regularly reporting workers and paying contributions.
Why does employee coverage matter?
Broader registration can strengthen the contribution base and potentially improve the long-term sustainability of the pension system. It also means more workers have a formal record that may support future old-age, survivor or invalidity benefits.
Workers who want to verify their own status can use our EOBI registration check guide.
How does this connect with 2026 pension reforms?
The government is also exploring ways to bring workers outside traditional formal employment into pension protection. Read our report on the proposed pension scheme for informal and self-employed workers.
The Draft EOBI Bill 2026 also proposes broader participation by groups such as self-employed persons and overseas Pakistanis.
What does registration not guarantee?
Registration alone does not automatically guarantee a monthly pension. Eligibility still depends on contribution history, age, insurable employment and the rules applicable to the claimant.
Our EOBI pension application guide explains the general claim process.
Final words
The 11.99 million employee figure shows the scale of EOBI’s reach, but the gap between registered and active employers also highlights why compliance and contribution collection remain important.
